UK Film Council Audience Award
This award celebrates the film voted best of the festival by the audience. Films in the International, British, South West and Late Lounge can compete for the cash prize of £500.

DepicT! Award
DepicT! is the unique Brief Encounters competition that challenges filmmakers to tell a story in a maximum of 90 seconds. An amazing amount of filmmaking talent is revealed each year in these micromovies, but only one film is awarded the cash prize of £3,000! International Jury Award
All films in the International, British, South West and Late Lounge programmes are eligible for this award of £3,000, which is given in recognition of outstanding quality and innovation.
Winner 2004: Untertage, directed by Jiska Rosa Rickels (The Netherlands).
ITV West Award
The ITV West Award recognises the maturity of the creative industries in the region and is an investment in talented individuals to ensure continued growth. The winner, selected by the festival’s British Jury, will receive a prize of £1,000.

Jameson Short Film Award
The Jameson Short Film Awards are presented, at selected European Coordination of Film Festivals member festivals, to the Director of a Short Film with the potential to reach a European audience and representing the best in creative contemporary European cinema. All fiction, animation, experimental and documentary short films in the national selection are eligible for the award, which is decided by the jury of the competition. Each prize has a cash value of 6,000 euros, making the Jameson Short Film Awards one of the most significant on the festival circuit.
BBC Talent New Film Makers Award
Screened on BBC3 and announced at Brief Encounters, the BBC Talent New Film Maker Award offers a British director a cash prize of £5,000 and a development deal with the BBC for a short film. The competition is run by BBC Talent and further details can be found at bbc.co.uk/newtalent. Submissions can be made direct to the BBC, using the entry form downloadable from the website.

Entry Procedure
Entry forms should be submitted with a DVD or VHS Pal viewing copy of the film by Friday 17th June 2005 (date of postmark). Additional supporting material such as press packs and production information are not required at this stage and should not be included. For submission we require a hard copy of the submission form with a DVD or VHS Pal viewing copy of the film and two stills (minimum 300dpi) from the film on CD.
Confirmation of receipt of submission cannot be provided.
If the original language of the film is not English, the viewing copy should be subtitled in English.
Viewing copies cannot be returned unless accompanied by a fully paid stamped addressed envelope (for UK return only) or return addressed envelope and cheque in sterling drawn on a British bank (for return outside the UK). Unclaimed material will be disposed of six months after the closing date. Brief Encounters reserves the right to keep video copies of the selected films for archive purposes.
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION
Successful entrants will be notified of their inclusion in the festival by Friday 26th August 2005. Please refrain from enquiring before this date. Those who have not heard from the festival office by this date have, unfortunately, been unsuccessful. The festival cannot enter into individual correspondence regarding films that have not been selected.
